Alimera Sciences is a biopharmaceutical company that specializes in the research, development and commercialization of prescription ophthalmic pharmaceuticals.  We are presently focused on diseases affecting the back of the eye, or retina, because these diseases are either not treated pharmacologically or are in need of improved treatments.

Founded in June 2003, Alimera Sciences was established behind the principles of doing the right thing and knowing the right things to do.

Pending approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Alimera Sciences intends to market Medidur™ FA under the trade name Iluvien™ and will refer to the product as Iluvien in future communications. Any reference to Medidur FA found in previous press releases or other published information should be considered the same product as Iluvien. The name Medidur, without the FA designation, may be used in reference to the drug delivery platform used in Iluvien and may possibly be used in future products.

Iluvien™ (fluocinolone acetonide)
intravitreal insert

Iluvien, an innovative new product, is currently undergoing global
clinical trials for the treatment of Diabetic Macula Edema (DME).
The FAME (Fluocinolone Acetonide in Diabetic Macular Edema) Study
is tracking results of an innovative new intravitreal insert that is placed
in the eye by a retinal specialist with a proprietary 25 gauge inserter.
Iluvien then slowly releases a very low dose of the
corticosteroid fluocinolone acetonide directly into the
vitreous for up to three years.
