Mark Brooks, M.B.A.
Managing Director, Scale Venture Partners
Mark Brooks invests in medical devices and healthcare services. During his 17- year career, he has been involved in numerous acquisitions and developed clinical and regulatory strategies for Scale portfolio companies. Mark sits on the boards of Alimera Sciences, Converge Medical, E-Surg, National Healing Company and USHW.
Prior to joining Scale Venture Partners in 1995, Mark led projects in the healthcare insurance, lab testing, and telecommunications service industries for Mercer Management Consulting, where he was a Senior Associate. Before Mercer, he provided LBO and acquisition capital to cable, entertainment and publishing companies for Manufacturers Hanover Trust.
Mark earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and his BA in Economics from Dartmouth.

Brian Halak, Ph.D., B.S.E.
Partner, Domain Associates
Brian Halak is a partner with Domain Associates. Previously, Halak worked for Advanced Technology Ventures, a venture capital firm, and for Wilkerson Group, a management consulting firm devoted exclusively to the medical industry. In this capacity, he developed strategy for leading firms in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.
Halak received a doctorate in immunology from Thomas Jefferson University and a bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He has published and presented on the topic of tumor immunology. Halak serves on the Investment Advisory Council for Ben Franklin Technology Partners and BioAdvance, both of which are Philadelphia seed-stage investment groups.
Anders D. Hove, M.Sc., M.D., M.B.A.
General Partner, Venrock Associates
Anders Hove is a general partner at Venrock's New York office. Prior to joining Venrock, Hove was CEO of Bellevue Asset Management and had responsibility for managing BB Biotech, an investment company with $1.6 billion invested in public and private biotech companies. In this capacity, Hove led numerous transactions in both private and public companies and he is a former director of The Medicines Company, Inc.; Eyetech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Virologic, Inc. Before joining Bellevue Asset Management, Hove held executive positions with the medical and clinical department and later with business operations of the pharmaceuticals division of Ciba-Geigy (later: Novartis).
Hove is also director of AdvanDx, Inc. and a Trustee of the Crown Prince Frederik’s Fund. He also led Venrock's investment in Nuvelo (NASDAQ: NUVO) and Trubion Pharmaceuticals.
Hove has an MSc in biotechnology engineering from The Technical University of Denmark, an MD from The University of Copenhagen and an MBA from INSEAD.
Dan Myers
President and Chief Executive Officer, Alimera Sciences
Dan is a co-founder of Alimera Sciences, Inc. and has served as its CEO since 2003. Prior to Alimera, Dan was a founding member of Novartis Ophthalmics (formerly CIBA Vision Ophthalmics) and acted as Vice-President of Sales and Marketing and later as President from 1997 through 2002. Dan has 25 years of sales, marketing and general management experience in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical industry through tenures at Novartis, Allergan, and Johnson & Johnson.
Dan is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology Corporate Advisory Council, on the Board of the Georgia Biomedical Partnership and active in the Foundation For Fighting Blindness. He is a former Board Member of Prevent Blindness America and has served on the Carter Foundation Board of Councilors in Atlanta. Dan has a degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech.
Calvin W. Roberts, M.D.
Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Cornell University
Dr. Calvin W. Roberts is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Roberts holds patents on the wide-field specular microscope, used for corneal endothelial studies, and is the developer of instruments for cataract surgery. As a consultant to ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies, including Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Johnson & Johnson and Novartis, Roberts has helped lead development and marketing efforts of several new therapeutics. He specializes in cataract and refractive surgery in his New York City private practice.
A graduate of Princeton University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, Roberts completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Roberts also completed cornea fellowships at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and
the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston.
Phil Tracy, J.D.
Venture Partner, Intersouth Partners
Phil Tracy has been a venture partner with Intersouth Partners since 1997. He was formerly
president and CEO of Burroughs Wellcome Co., a major pharmaceutical company with
$1.2 billion in sales and 5,000 employees before its
merger with GlaxoSmithKline.
Tracy has served on the board of directors for the Pharmaceutical Research and
Manufacturers Association of America and the Nonprescription Drug Manufacturers
Association. He has also served as chairman of the board of visitors for Duke
University Medical Center and as a member of the visitors' board for the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Bryce Youngren, M.B.A.
General Partner, Polaris Venture Partners
Bryce Youngren is a general partner at Polaris Venture Partners’ Boston office. Prior to
joining Polaris, Youngren was a senior associate at Great Hill Partners, where he sourced
and executed investments in SmartMail Services and Managed Storage International and
served as a Director on the boards of both companies. Previously Youngren served as
an analyst for Willis Stein & Partners in Chicago and for Bear Stearns & Co.’s
technology investment banking group in New York. Currently Youngren serves on the
board of directors of Cushcraft Corporation.
Youngren holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania and a BA in economics from the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign.
